A cluster of streaming and licensing announcements landed on September 8, 2026. Here is a consolidated look at three of them, with context on each series.
Muse Asia licenses The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2
Muse Asia has licensed the second TV anime season of Nigoju and Umibozu’s The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mo, Shindeiru.) and will begin streaming it in October. The season debuts in Japan on October 7, more than four years after the first.
The sequel has had a long road. It was first announced in July 2022, immediately after Season 1 wrapped, and KADOKAWA originally scheduled it for July 2026 before pushing it to October. Manabu Kurihara returns to direct at ENGI — the studio that KADOKAWA is, in a separate announcement the same week, folding into its new Studio One Base company in November 2026. Deko Akao is back on series scripts and Yosuke Ito on character designs. Vocaloid producer 40mP composes the score and also writes, composes and arranges the theme songs: Kome performs the opening “Kono Shinzo ni Hanabata wo” (“A Bouquet for This Heart”), and Kagura Nana returns for the ending “Hakuchumu” (“Daydreams”). New cast members Akari Komiyama (Mia Whitlock) and Nobuhiko Okamoto (Scarlet) join the returning voice cast.
The series, based on Nigoju’s Dengeki Bunko light novels, follows high-schooler Kimihiko Kimizuka, a boy with a knack for stumbling into trouble, and his time as the assistant to a self-styled great detective known only as Siesta — who, as the title says, is already dead by the time much of the story is narrated. Season 1 premiered with a one-hour special in July 2021, ran 12 episodes, and Muse Asia streamed it as it aired across Southeast Asia. Its reception was mixed, which is part of why a four-year gap to Season 2 raised eyebrows, but the light novels retain a solid following.
Amasian TV adds Hyakusho Kizoku seasons 2 and 3, free
ODK Media’s North American free streaming platform Amasian TV is now streaming the second and third seasons of the Hyakusho Kizoku anime (The Farmer’s Days / The Peasant Noble), with English subtitles and Japanese audio, on demand and with no subscription required. The stream is handled in partnership with Japan International Broadcasting.
The short-form series adapts Hiromu Arakawa‘s autobiographical manga about the seven years she spent working on her family’s dairy farm in Hokkaido before she became a manga artist — the same firsthand experience that later informed her agricultural-school series Silver Spoon. RetroCrush streams the first season. Season 1 premiered on Tokyo MX in July 2023 with four-minute episodes; Season 3 ran from October to December 2025, and a fourth season is in production. Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist, The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Daemons of the Shadow Realm) launched the manga in Shinshokan’s Unpoko magazine in 2006, moved it to Wings in 2009, and has serialised it irregularly ever since. Amasian TV — which offers anime, Korean drama and Chinese film for free, ad-supported — has previously said it will add the Gunma-chan anime in the coming months, and began streaming Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood free in March 2026.
Manga UP! Global adds three manga
Square Enix’s English-language app Manga UP! Global added three new series over the week — all fantasy, and two of them in the increasingly crowded “expelled from the guild, then thrives” subgenre:
- Dragon and Flower: The Timid Princess and the Ice Sword’s Loyalty by Mio Watanabe — a manga adaptation of Yuna Asana’s light novels (illustrations by SNC), launched on Gangan Online in July 2024; three volumes out.
- I Was Sacrificed to a Vampire, But He Spoils Me Instead! by author Aira Yao and artist Asana Haine — a “cozy, heart-melting” romantic fantasy about a kind vampire and the unfortunate girl sent to him as a sacrifice, whose expectations “couldn’t be further apart”; launched on Manga UP! in September 2025, two volumes out.
- Wildcard Alchemist: Building the Ultimate Guild With a Divine Fluffy Beast and Random Alchemy Skill by author Skyfarm and artist Tentashi — the alchemist Iluto is kicked out of his guild, then teams up in the forest with Noir, a coveted divine beast that granted him a “Random Alchemy” skill, and starts assembling a dream squad while his old guild collapses; three volumes out.
Manga UP! Global has been aggressively widening its catalogue since launch as Square Enix pushes its manga service internationally in competition with K MANGA, MANGA Plus and Azuki.
