The website for the live-action adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s one-shot manga Look Back posted a new clip Friday depicting aspiring manga artists Kyomoto and Fujino at work on a collaborative project, with Aju Makita and Natsuki Deguchi in the respective lead roles.

Hirokazu Kore-eda both directs and edits the film from his own screenplay, with longtime Fujimoto-anime composer Yuta Bando (credited as Taku Matsushiba) scoring the soundtrack. Musician Kenshi Yonezu contributes guitar work, actress-singer Toko Miura provides vocals for an insert song, and animator Yoko Kuno directs an accompanying rotoscoped sequence produced by Shin-Ei Animation.

The film opens in Japan on September 11 following a May premiere at Cannes and an upcoming October slot at the London Film Festival; GKIDS will bring it to U.S., Canadian, U.K. and Irish theaters in 2026.

Look Back previously received a 2024 anime film adaptation that GKIDS also distributed in North America, following its Japanese debut where it topped opening-weekend earnings despite selling fewer tickets than the top film that week. Fujimoto’s original one-shot bowed on Shonen Jump+ in July 2021 and drew over 2.5 million views on its first day; Viz Media publishes it in English both digitally and in print.
