Sony released a first video clip during Thursday’s State of Play from its upcoming live-action Resident Evil reboot, spotlighting star Austin Abrams in the role of Bryan alongside co-stars Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser.
Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger helms the project and co-wrote the script with John Wick: Chapter 4 writer Shay Hatten; Constantin Film and PlayStation Productions are producing, with prior reporting indicating the film aims to hew more closely to the original games’ horror roots than earlier entries.
This marks the eighth live-action Resident Evil film overall, following the six Milla Jovovich-led movies released between 2002 and 2017 and 2021’s continuity-reset Welcome to Raccoon City. The announcement comes as the game series continues to perform strongly, with February’s Resident Evil Requiem surpassing 6 million copies sold—the franchise’s fastest entry to reach that mark.
