The Tokyo Anime Award Festival (TAAF), which grew out of the earlier Tokyo Anime Award held as part of the Tokyo International Anime Fair from 2002 to 2013, has wrapped up for good after launching as its own independent event in 2014 and running 13 times since.
Organizers confirmed that the festival’s X (formerly Twitter) account and YouTube channel will close on September 30, at which point its website will switch over to an archive-only format.
This year’s ceremony recognized Kenshi Yonezu with the Best Sound/Performance honor in the Anime of the Year category, citing four of his theme songs from the past year: “Plazma” for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, “Bow and Arrow” for Medalist, and both “Iris Out” and the Hikaru Utada collaboration “Jane Doe” for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX took the television series prize, while Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – Akaza Sairai, the opening chapter of the Infinity Castle film trilogy, won the animated film category. Eligible entries needed to have debuted, in whole or in part, between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
