Creator Tsurumaikada announced via the official Medalist X/Twitter account Friday that the figure-skating manga is entering a hiatus for unspecified “production circumstances,” with no return date given.
Tsurumaikada apologized to readers and expressed hope to resume the story with an uninterrupted run through its Junior Grand Prix finals arc once work picks back up.
Serialized in Kodansha’s Afternoon since May 2020 and licensed in English by Kodansha USA, Medalist has racked up 15 collected volumes as of July and previously won Best General Manga honors at both the 2023 Shogakukan Manga Awards and Kodansha’s own 2024 awards.
The manga’s anime adaptation launched on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation block in January 2025 with Disney+ streaming, followed by a nine-episode second season in early 2025 that streams via Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ elsewhere; a feature film continuing the story past the second season is slated to open in Japan on February 19.
