A livestream event held Saturday for Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo—the upcoming anime based on Osamu Akimoto’s long-running Kochikame manga—revealed its core cast, staff lineup, a new promotional video and key visual, confirming a 2027 debut on Fuji TV with additional streaming to follow.
Akitaro Daichi, whose credits include the 2001 Fruits Basket and Ojarumaru, is directing at studio Gallop, with series scripts from Shuichi Kamiyama and Yoshifumi Fukushima. Character designer and chief animation director duties fall to Kenichi Hara, working alongside fellow chief animation director Gil-Bo Noh, while veteran composer Toshihiko Sahashi (Full Metal Panic!, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed) provides the music.
Alongside the anime, Shueisha Games and Kairosoft are developing a tie-in title, Kochikame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat, for a wide spread of platforms including Switch, Switch 2, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, the latter supporting English, Japanese and Traditional Chinese text.
Kochikame concluded its original manga run in September 2016 after four decades of serialization, having sold roughly 150 million copies by the time volume 199 shipped that year; Shueisha released a fresh one-shot chapter on August 3 to mark the series’ 50th anniversary.
Beyond the classic 1996-2004 TV series that ran past 300 episodes, the property has spawned films, specials, live-action adaptations and stage plays. Streaming outlet REMOW previously confirmed plans to bring all 373 episodes of the original anime to North American audiences with English subtitles via its It’s Anime YouTube channel, marking the franchise’s first official release in the region.
