A missing person story in Britain had a happy ending last weekend when 12 year-old Carmelita Lakdesha Paul, reported missing on the previous Thursday (August 13) while on holiday in Japan, was found safe on Saturday. According to media reports, she said she had spent some of her time visiting an "anime pilgrimage" site – that is, a real location that has been depictedin an anime series.
In particular, according to the Tokyo Reporter website, Paul is a fan of the Bungo Stray Dogs anime (left). The series set in Yokohama, which is where Paul walked into a police box on Saturday.
Paul, a secondary school student, had arrived in Japan with her parents and older brother on July 21, but left her family's rental accommodation in Tokyo early on August 13. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police had been searching for her since her disappearance was reported. She did not have a smartphonewith her.
When she was found on Saturday, Paul claimed she had spent her nights at an internet cafe, although the Sora News website points out that internet cafes arenot supposed to allow minors to stay overnight.
Concerhs for her had been raised by the extreme rainfall in the Tokyo area in recent days, with several deaths reported.
