King Amusement Creative revealed a teaser promotional video on Fridayfor the television anime of storywriter Shinichi Sawaragi and artist Tanku Gasuyama's A Pen, Handcuffs, and a Common-Law Marriage (Pen to Wappa to Jijitsu Kon) manga. The company also revealed the main cast and staff, a teaser visual, and the show's January 2027 debut.
The anime will star Tomoaki Maeno as Eiji Kirisame and Inori Minase as Tsugumi Kuchinashi.
Takaaki Ishiyama (Chaos; HEAd, Fairy Musketeers) is directing the anime at EMT Squared. Shigeru Murakoshi (Snowball Earth, Zombie Land Saga) is overseeingthe series scripts, and Miyuki Nakamura (The Unaware Atelier Master) is designing the characters. Hiroto Morishita (The Faraway Paladin, Wistoria: Wand and Sword) is the sound director and Kana Hashiguchi (Classroom of the Elite (TV 3), Black Fox) is composing the music.
Yen Press announced in August 2025 it had licensed the manga, and it released the first volume in English on March 24. The publisher describes the story:
Sawaragi and Gasuyama launched the manga in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine in December 2022. Hakusensha published the seventh volume on April 28. The manga has 400,000 copies in circulation.
