More than ten years after it ended, Shun Matsuena's manga Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple is making a major comeback in Japan, both with the first volume of its sequel, Shijo Saikyo no Deshi Kenichi 2 – Tatsujin-hen, and a new collector's ('aizoban') edition of the original series spanning 13 volumes. Each volume compiles over 40 chapters and includes entirely new cover art and interior illustrations drawn by the author for the occasion; the first two 912-page volumes released August 18 in Japan, with the third due September 16. The sequel, running on Shogakukan's Sunday Webry platform since this year, follows Kenichi as he continues training at the Ryozanpaku dojo, where his routine is disrupted by a powerful new ninja enemy, returning past rivals, and his archenemy Yomi. The original Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple was serialized between 2002 and 2015 in Weekly Shonen Sunday.
