‘She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man’ manga to end in volume 16
Publisher Micro Magazine and online retailers have listed the 16th volume of Dicca Suemitsu‘s manga adaptation of Hirotsugu Ryusen‘s She professed herself pupil of the wise man. (Kenja no Deshi o Nanoru Kenja) as the final volume. It ships on October 29.
The premise is a wrinkle on the standard isekai/VRMMO setup: a veteran online-game player — an old man in real life — logs in one day to find his avatar has become that of a young girl, and that he can no longer pass himself off as the grizzled sage “Danblf.” Forced to improvise, he claims to be the wise man’s disciple instead, and has to live up to that story in a world that has become physically real. Ryusen began the web novel on “Shosetsuka ni Naro” in April 2012, and Micro Magazine has published it in print with illustrations by Fuzichoco since June 2014. Suemitsu’s manga adaptation launched on Micro Magazine’s Comic Ride site in July 2016, so it ran for roughly ten years. A TV anime adaptation aired in January 2022. Seven Seas licenses both the light novels and the manga in English, and Crunchyroll (through the former Funimation catalogue) streams the anime with an English dub. The light novel series itself is still ongoing, so the manga is ending while the source continues.
‘Manga Diary of a Male Porn Star’ to end with 12th volume
Retailer listings indicate that Kaeruno Erefante‘s autobiographical manga Manga Diary of a Male Porn Star will conclude with its 12th volume. The artist, working under a pseudonym, has described the series as drawn directly from his experiences performing in more than 250 adult videos, told from a wry, self-deprecating, observational angle — closer to a workplace comedy about an unusual industry than to erotica. It belongs to the same broad tradition of Japanese essay manga and watakushi (autobiographical) comics that has produced acclaimed work about everything from convenience-store jobs to caregiving.
Kaeruno launched it on Shinchosha’s Kurage Bunch website in January 2020; Shinchosha released the 11th Japanese volume in December 2025, which lines up with a 12th and final book. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English under its mature-readers Ghost Ship imprint and released the fifth volume in March 2025.
Renta!’s first original vertical BL manga gets a “motion comic”
Digital manga service Renta! announced that Redoing My Youth In Another World -The God Of Death Is My Fanboy- (Seishun no Yarinaoshi wa Isekai de), its first original vertical (webtoon-style) boys-love manga, is receiving an “AniComi” motion comic that will air on Tokyo MX from January 2027. A teaser video, key visual, cast and staff were revealed. Tomohito Takatsuka voices Makoto Fuwa and Ryuichi Kijima voices the death god Thanatos, with additional cast including Akinori Egoshi, Sohei Horikane, Yohei Matsuoka and Kengo Kawanishi. Keita Ando directs at studio Do-Raku in collaboration with Digital Shokunin, with sound production by Studio Mausu.
The notable wrinkle is that Renta! is incorporating generative AI in some shots. The company stated that AI-generated assets received manual touch-ups and processing such as compositing and editing, and that it obtained the necessary permissions from rights holders for the use. That disclosure is unusually specific, and reflects how contested AI use has become in anime-adjacent production: studios that use it now generally feel obliged to say exactly how, and to pre-empt accusations that training data or output infringes on artists’ work. “Motion comic” / “AniComi” formats — which add limited animation, camera moves and voice acting to existing manga panels rather than fully re-animating them — are a lower-cost middle ground between a static manga and a full anime, and Renta! developed the format specifically to promote its catalogue. The manga launched on Renta! in July 2024 (art by Taiyo no Taiyo MANGA SHOKUNIN STUDIO, original story by Hare Takizawa) and has four digital volumes.
