The Detective Conan anime’s 30th anniversary television special, The Counterfeit Case of Ultra-30 (30-go Satsujin Jiken), will air on September 25 at 9:00 p.m. JST as part of Nippon TV’s Friday Road Show block, and the staff released a teaser visual for the two-hour program.
Nobuhara Kamanaka, a current co-director on the Detective Conan TV series whose credits also include A Certain Scientific Accelerator and the Detective Conan: Police Academy Arc – Wild Police Story, is directing the special.
In the story, Conan, the Detective Boys, Hiroshi Agasa, Ran and Sonoko visit the Printing Bureau’s Nagano factory as a redesigned 10,000-yen note enters circulation. A murder there escalates when counterfeit money is discovered, sending Conan and Heiji Hattori to Osaka, believed to be where the fake notes are printed.
Based on Gosho Aoyama’s manga, which has run in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday since 1994, the Detective Conan anime began airing in 1996, with the first of its many theatrical films following in 1997. The manga’s 109th volume ships in Japan on October 16, 2026; Viz Media and Shogakukan Asia publish it in English, Viz under the title Case Closed. Seven of the films, including 2025’s Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, rank among the 100 highest-grossing movies in Japanese box-office history.
