Publisher Frontier Works released the first footage from the television anime adapting Atamoto’s slice-of-life comic Tanuki to Kitsune on Friday, unveiling a voice cast led by Misaki Kuno as the easygoing tanuki and Nao Toyama as the mischievous fox who teases him, with Toshiyuki Morikawa, Maria Naganawa and Takuma Nagatsuka rounding out their mountain circle of animal friends.
Director Tommy Hino leads production at Akatsuki Media Studio, with Rika Kihara handling scripts, ahead of an October 4 debut in TV Tokyo’s Sunday-morning “Animori” block timed to the franchise’s tenth anniversary.
Originally serialized on social media by Atamoto before Frontier Works began print collections, the property now spans ten manga volumes and three picture books, with combined circulation topping 1.35 million copies; a companion series, Tanuki to Kitsune Yurutto, adds its second volume October 15, and an earlier run of web shorts first aired in 2018.
