Muse Asia revealed Thursday that Crayon Shin-chan The Movie Super Strange! My Yokai Monster Vacation, the 33rd theatrical entry in the long-running franchise, will screen in the Philippines this November following its Japanese release on July 31, where it opened in third place with roughly 441,000 admissions and about 539 million yen (US$3.41 million) over its first three days.
The plot sends the Nohara family to Hiroshi’s hometown of Akita for a fireworks festival, only for an incident to unleash yokai spirits across the region; the family follows them into a strange, nostalgia-tinged spirit realm and an adventure that follows.
Sairi Ito voices nine-tailed fox spirit Yako, while comedian Sakamoto of duo Mayurika plays a baseball-loving squid yokai; the supporting cast includes Yumiko Kobayashi, Miki Narahashi, Toshiyuki Morikawa and Satomi Koorogi.
Masaki Watanabe (Sakamoto Days) directed from a script by Yoshiko Nakamura, with Shin-Ei Animation, TV Asahi, ADK Emotions and Futabasha producing and Toho distributing; singer Tomoo contributes the theme song “Otona ni Nattara.”
