LOCUS Animation Studio announced in late August that its theatrical film Guardians of the Video Game, based on the webtoon by Gasfard, will open across South Korean cinemas in October, accompanied by a newly released poster and trailer.
The story follows agent Patch, tasked with maintaining virtual worlds inside video games, who is reassigned to a division overseeing legacy titles and must dive into the 8-bit game Legend of the Dragon Sword to save it from being shut down.
LOCUS, previously behind Red Shoes and The Priest, is producing the adaptation, which translates Gasfard’s original webtoon—serialized from 2014 to 2021 and viewed some 340 million times with an average 9.98 rating—into a 3D style blended with pixel-art visuals. The source webtoon remains available in English on WEBTOON.
