French publisher Vega announced that its Alpha collection will release the manga Strange Tales of the Water Mirror (Suikyou Kitan) next month. The work was originally serialized in Japan between 1990 and 1992 in Kadokawa's Asuka magazine and is considered one of the defining works of veteran creator Yoko Kondo, who began her career in the early 1980s and contributed to the famous avant-garde magazine Garo. Although rarely published in France before, Kondo is already known there for the manga Ten Nights, Ten Dreams and A Woman and the War, both released by Picquier. The story is set during Japan's Sengoku era and follows Wataru, a wandering youth in search of virtue, who crosses paths with a mysterious girl named Kagami; together they set out to uncover the origins of her past amid a journey full of mysteries and supernatural encounters. Originally published in two volumes in Japan, the series was later reissued in a 472-page complete edition in 2015 by Chikuma Shobo, which will serve as the basis for the French release. The French edition will be a large-format hardcover (15x21cm), priced at 29 euros, and is scheduled for release on September 25.
