Bandai Namco Entertainment streamed a fresh gameplay trailer on Sunday that puts the spotlight on Roger Jr., a new fighter joining the Season 3 roster of Tekken franchise. The same video also teases the in‑game model of Yūjirō Hanma, the legendary father of Baki Hanma from the Baki manga. A dedicated trailer for Yūjirō will premiere on 17 January during the Tekken World Tour Finals in Singapore, giving fans a deeper look at the crossover character.

Season 3 Line‑up and Release History

Season 3 already introduced a handful of new combatants. Kunimitsu made her debut on 2 June in Japan and 1 June in the United States, after an early‑access rollout on 28 May (Japan) and 27 May (U.S.). Bob joined the fight via early access on 19 August, becoming fully available on 24 August. The upcoming Yūjirō Hanma is slated to appear in early 2027, rounding out a roster that blends returning fan‑favorites with fresh faces.

Earlier seasons of Tekken 8 have also been steadily expanded. Season 2 added Anna Williams in March 2025, Fahkumram in July 2025, Armor King on 13 October, and Miary Zo on 4 December. The game’s launch lineup in January 2024—when Tekken 8 first hit PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam—featured a massive roster of 42 characters, ranging from series stalwarts like Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima to newer entries such as Leroy Smith and Zafina.

Ongoing DLC Roadmap

The post‑launch support for Tekken 8 has been robust. The first DLC fighter, Eddy Gordo, arrived in April 2024 (source), followed by Lidia Sobieska in July (source) and Heihachi Mishima in September (source). In December, the game welcomed Clive Rosfield, the protagonist of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XVI, further underscoring the title’s cross‑franchise appeal (source).

Behind the Scenes: Leadership Change

While the game continues to grow its roster, its development team saw a major shift in June. Kohei Ikeda—known in‑game as “Nakatsu”—announced his departure from Bandai Namco Entertainment after a two‑decade tenure that included directing both Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 (source). Ikeda’s legacy includes shaping the series’ modern combat system and contributing to titles like Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s YouTube channel, where the new trailer was posted.

Context Within the Wider Tekken Universe

Tekken 8’s narrative unfolds roughly six months after the events of Tekken 7, a timeline recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest‑running story in video‑game history (source). The series also enjoys a streaming presence; the Tekken: Bloodline anime, which adapts the plot of Tekken 3, premiered on Netflix in August 2022.

With Roger Jr.’s imminent early‑access debut, Tekken 8’s Season 3 continues to reinforce the franchise’s strategy of blending classic fighters, manga crossovers, and fresh talent. Players can look forward to testing the new character in the coming weeks, and to a January trailer unveiling more about Yūjirō Hanma at the Singapore finale of the Tekken World Tour.
