Capcom used Thursday’s State of Play to debut the first trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a major 2027 expansion introducing a new Elder Dragon named Gundoraja alongside a fresh “Boost Driver” combat system that temporarily amplifies attacks, combos and guarding.
The base game launched in February 2025 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (with a Switch 2 version in development), selling over 8 million copies in its first three days—Capcom’s fastest-selling title to that point—and surpassing 10 million by March. A string of free title updates followed through 2025, including a Final Fantasy XIV crossover and the addition of Elder Dragon Gogmazios, before Ascendance now picks up the expansion content.
