Abrams ComicArts’ Kana imprint announced on Friday that it will now publish Inio Asano’s short-story collection Before Dawn and the End of the World (Sekai no Owari to Yoake Mae) on March 4, moved back from a previously announced November date.
The anthology gathers ten short stories, previously unpublished in English, drawn from Asano’s early work; Kana describes it as “an inspiring and melancholic collection” of glimpses into other people’s lives and struggles. Asano ran the stories in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits from 2005 to 2008, and Shogakukan collected them in a single volume in October 2008.
Asano is best known for Goodnight Punpun, Solanin and Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction, the last of which ran from 2014 to 2022 and inspired a two-part 2024 anime film adaptation and a TV series that Crunchyroll streamed.
