GKIDS announced on Saturday it has acquired the North American rights to the Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust anime filmand the live-action film of Makoto Shinkai's 5 Centimeters per Second anime film.
GKIDS describes the film:
Hideyuki Kikuchi's novels inspired the VampireHunter D original video anime (OVA) in 1985 and the Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust film in 2000. Discotek Media most recently released Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust on DVD and Blu-rayDisc in 2015. Urban Vision had previously released the film on DVD and VHS in 2002. Yoshiaki Kawajiri directed the film at Madhouse.
Sentai Filmworks most recently released the 1985 OVA on Blu-ray Disc in August 2025. Iconic Events Releasing and Anime Expo's AX Cinema Nights program hosted the 40th anniversary screenings of the OVA in April 2025. HIDIVE and Shudder began streaming the OVA in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand in May 2025.
SixTONES member HokutoMatsumura (Suzume's Sōta Munakata) stars in the live-action film.
Spoon produced the film, and TOHO distributed. Yoshiyuki Okuyama directed, and Ayako Suzuki wrote thescript. Ayatake Ezaki composed the music. Kenshi Yonezu performs the theme song "1991."

Shinkai directed, wrote, and storyboarded the anime film, and was also the sound director, producer, and art director. Tenmon composed the music.
