FuRyu Shows Crymelight Trailer and Demo for Switch 2, PS5, PC

Japanese developer FuRyu dropped a fresh gameplay trailer for its upcoming title Crymelight on Wednesday. The short video highlights the series’ signature dark bishōjo action, while a playable demo became available on the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

The trailer, posted on FuRyu’s official YouTube channel, walks players through a series of fast‑paced battles set in two contrasting realms: the nightmarish prison called “Wonderland” and the soothing “Tea Party” sanctuary. As the heroine, a nameless girl referred to only as “Alice,” awakens with no recollection of her past, she must navigate these worlds, confront the sins that haunt her, and ultimately seek a chance at “Rebirth.”

Crymelight is the newest entry in FuRyu’s CRY series, a line of “dark bishōjo action” games that began with CRYSTAR and continued with the 2023 action RPG CRYMACHINA. The series is known for blending high‑octane combat with a heavy emotional narrative, often featuring young female protagonists confronting personal trauma.

According to the official announcement, Crymelight will launch on November 5 for the three platforms mentioned above. A deluxe edition will ship with six optional DLC items, a digital artbook, and a digital album containing eleven soundtrack tracks and three voice‑drama pieces. Vocalist Hitomi Sekine performs the theme song “Love and Guilt,” adding a melodic counterpoint to the game’s grim aesthetic.

Story duties remain in the hands of veteran writer Naoki Hisaya, who previously supervised narrative across the CRY series. His involvement ensures continuity with the lore established in CRYSTAR and CRYMACHINA, where each installment expands the universe’s mythology of the afterlife realms. Returning staff also includes composer Sakuzyo, known for blending electronic and orchestral motifs, and animator RIRI Yamashita, whose fluid motion work has defined the series’ visual style. Character designs are handled by YOGISYA, bringing fresh silhouettes to the cast while retaining the series’ signature dark aesthetic.

Gameplay-wise, Crymelight embraces roguelike mechanics, meaning each run through the “Wonderland” prison reshuffles enemy layouts, item drops, and narrative fragments. Players must collect “sin” tokens to unlock memories and progress toward the ultimate “Rebirth” ending. The “Tea Party” hub offers a safe space where Alice can interact with other lost souls, upgrade abilities, and reflect on the story’s thematic exploration of guilt and redemption.

The demo currently available on Switch 2, PS5, and Steam allows players to experience the opening segment of Alice’s journey, including a tutorial battle against a “Madness Beast” and a brief foray into the Tea Party’s calming environment. Early reactions highlight the striking contrast between the chaotic, neon‑lit combat zones and the pastel‑toned sanctuary, a visual dichotomy that underscores the game’s narrative tension.

Fans of the series can also revisit the broader context of Crymelight through Manga For Today’s coverage of FuRyu’s recent trailer drops, which delves deeper into the demo’s features and the upcoming DLC roadmap. As FuRyu continues to expand the CRY franchise, Crymelight appears poised to attract both veterans of the series and newcomers drawn to its blend of dark storytelling and fast‑paced action.
