Aniplex confirmed during Thursday’s State of Play that Fate/Extra Record, Type-Moon studio BB’s remake of the 2010 PSP title Fate/Extra, will finally launch January 28 across Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5 and PC—arriving after Bandai Namco stepped away from publishing the game by mutual agreement with Type-Moon, with Aniplex (and Marvelous Europe for Europe and Australia) now taking over.
The game will also ship in a physical Limited Edition bundling a three-disc soundtrack, SteelBook case and artbook, plus a Digital Deluxe Edition with bonus outfits, arranged music and a digital artbook. Original director Kazuya Nino has stepped back from the project and left Type-Moon studio BB for personal and health reasons, though character designer Arco Wada remains attached.
The original Fate/Extra and its companion title Fate/Extra CCC helped establish the so-called “Extraverse,” an alternate sci-fi branch of Type-Moon’s Fate setting that has since expanded into the anime Fate/Extra Last Encore, the Fate/EXTELLA action games, and 2023’s Fate/Samurai Remnant.
