Set in the Meiji era, the series follows Satoko Kirigaya, whose only wish is to marry for her family's honor despite her limited time left — and who proposes marriage to the very assassin sent to kill her, a decision that could easily backfire. In volume 8, Satoko's father Jube attacks Shinpei on Tennyojima while Kirigaya family soldiers open fire on reinforcements, leaving Satoko devastated and bedridden as she witnesses the violence, though unexpected support may be on the horizon.
