Japanese developer Compile Heart announced that its upcoming title Villion:Code will reach Western markets on January 26. The release covers both North America and Europe, offering a range of physical and digital options for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and the newly announced Switch 2.

The standard launch will be supported by a Digital Deluxe Edition that bundles a downloadable art book and the full game soundtrack. Physical copies for the PlayStation 5 version will be available in both North America and Europe, while the Switch and PlayStation 4 editions will see physical releases only in North America.
Japanese Launch Recap
Villion:Code first arrived in Japan on June 25, launching simultaneously on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Switch 2. The domestic rollout was highlighted in an official launch announcement that detailed the game’s futuristic setting and core mechanics.
Story Premise
Set in a near‑future world teetering on the brink of annihilation, humanity establishes the “Advan Resilience Research Academy City” as a last‑ditch effort to survive. When an unexplained anomaly erupts within the academy, it spawns hostile entities known as GEM. The anomaly also creates an impenetrable “bubble,” isolating the city from the outside world. Trapped inside, students and faculty must confront their own roles while uncovering the truth behind the phenomenon.
Development and Publishing Partners
Villion:Code is a joint effort between Compile Heart and its long‑time publishing partner Idea Factory. The title’s official site, Villion:Code website, provides screenshots, trailers, and a detailed breakdown of the game’s systems.
Earlier in January, Compile Heart generated buzz by teasing a separate school‑RPG project featuring a collaboration with Shin Megami Tensei designer Koji Okada. While unrelated to Villian:Code, the teaser underscores the studio’s commitment to expanding its portfolio of narrative‑driven titles.
Platform Partners
The game’s multi‑platform strategy involves major hardware manufacturers. Information about Nintendo’s involvement can be found on its company page, while PlayStation’s role is outlined on the PlayStation profile. For players who prefer PC, Compile Heart’s titles are often distributed via Steam, though a PC version of Villian:Code has not been confirmed at this time.
What to Expect From the Western Release
Western fans can anticipate a launch that mirrors the Japanese version in content, with the added convenience of region‑free physical discs for PlayStation 5. The Digital Deluxe bundle caters to collectors, offering high‑resolution artwork and a curated soundtrack that reflects the game’s atmospheric tone.
Given the title’s ambitious premise and the pedigree of its developers, Villian:Code is positioned to become a notable entry in the sci‑fi action genre. The January 26 rollout will be the first opportunity for English‑speaking players to experience the mystery of the academy city and its deadly GEM adversaries.
