Two of anime and VTubing’s biggest anniversary campaigns moved forward this week. COVER Corp. used its “hololive Next” broadcast to confirm the VTuber agency’s long-rumored first television anime, alongside a full rebrand ahead of hololive’s 10th anniversary next September. Separately, My Hero Academia’s own 10th-anniversary campaign set its finale event and released a genre-bending anniversary remix of one of its most recognizable theme songs.
hololive’s first TV anime: “Odeholo,” in development for five years
COVER Corp. kicked off the countdown to hololive production’s 10th anniversary on September 7 with the “hololive Next” broadcast, and the headline reveal was confirmation that hololive is finally getting a television anime — the franchise’s first-ever foray into TV animation, after what the agency says has been roughly five years in development. The project is currently going by the working title “Odeholo,” with its full title, story and cast still under wraps. Studio KAI has been assigned to handle animation production.
Further details are set to be revealed during a dedicated “Odeholo” Information Reveal Program on September 23, 2026, from 20:00 to 21:00 JST on the anime’s official YouTube channel (@odeholo). The special will be hosted by Shirakami Fubuki and Ookami Mio, featuring Momosuzu Nene, Omaru Polka, Yukihana Lamy and Shishiro Botan.
A new talent unit and a full “Production Renewal”
Alongside the anime, COVER confirmed a new talent unit teased under the name “ASOBI★MAWARI-TAI!” (“Playground Squad”), introduced via a teaser video titled “Welcome to Our Playground!” that recaps hololive’s history while hinting at incoming members; more details on the talents and the unit’s activities are expected throughout September via the unit’s official X account.
The anime and new unit anchor a broader rebrand COVER is calling the “Production Renewal,” rolling out gradually over the year leading up to hololive’s 10th anniversary on September 7, 2027. The other pieces of the overhaul:
– **A refreshed hololive logo**, releasing progressively from September 7, 2026 across the official website, shops, live shows and merchandise, while keeping the brand’s signature triangle and blue motif. – **A shift from regional to language-based branding.** hololive is consolidating its region-specific sub-brands — hololive Indonesia, hololive English, hololive DEV_IS and others — under a single unified “hololive” banner. Existing YouTube channels and social accounts stay active, but content will now be organized by the audience’s language rather than a talent’s region of origin. – **Visual updates for talents’ outfits and models,** rolling out gradually over several years at a pace of roughly five to eight talents annually; COVER emphasized the update order does not reflect ranking or favoritism. Generation 0 member Tokino Sora is the first talent slated for an update, to be unveiled at a dedicated Visual Update Reveal Live. – **A new streaming app, hololive raku,** built to enhance talents’ everyday “home streams” with upgraded lighting and stage assets (including items from studio streams and “Holoearth”), COVER’s proprietary “holoEmotion” facial-expression tech, device-motion tracking for more natural on-screen movement, and interactive features like YouTube-chat-linked mini-games and polls.
COVER says further announcements will continue to arrive throughout the anniversary countdown via future “hololive Next” episodes — meaning this week’s reveal is very likely the first of several before September 2027.
My Hero Academia: ULTRA EXPO set for April 2027, plus an Electric Callboy remix
My Hero Academia’s own 10th-anniversary project reached its next milestone this week too. The organizers revealed that the anime’s new anniversary event is MHA ULTRA EXPO, a two-day finale set for April 17–18, 2027 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan — described as the largest event in the anime’s history, with exhibitions across Exhibition Halls 2 and 3 and stage programming in the Event Hall. An official website and X account have opened, with the program, guests and ticket information due in early October 2026.

Separately, Toho announced a special 10th-anniversary version of Yuki Hayashi’s “You Say Run,” from the first season’s soundtrack, featuring German electronicore band Electric Callboy; Bones Film unveiled a new Izuku Midoriya illustration paying homage to the original soundtrack album cover. The remix was performed live at the My Hero Academia IN CONCERT stage in London on September 20 and releases globally on streaming platforms from September 22, continuing a run of anniversary content that has already included the short epilogue episode “More” in May and the IN CONCERT world tour.
Kohei Horikoshi’s manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from July 2014 to August 2024 across 42 volumes, and the anime — which premiered in April 2016, ran eight seasons through December 2025’s Episode 170, and spawned four films including 2024’s My Hero Academia The Movie: You’re Next — is streaming on Crunchyroll in select countries and territories. Horikoshi has since returned to the magazine with a new 61-page horror one-shot, Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san, his first one-shot since the manga’s conclusion. Hayashi, for his part, composed the music for every season of the anime, all four films, and the spinoff My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, making him as consistent a presence across the franchise’s decade as any of its cast.
Two very different 10th-anniversary playbooks
Set side by side, the two campaigns show two different anniversary strategies converging on the same calendar. hololive is using its milestone to launch something genuinely new — a first TV anime, a new talent unit, a rebuilt app — timed to land throughout the year leading up to the anniversary itself. My Hero Academia, whose source manga and TV run have already concluded, is instead building toward a single culminating live event nearly a year and a half after its anime ended, backed by music and merchandise tie-ins rather than new story content. Both approaches point to the same underlying fact: a decade-old anime or VTuber brand is now valuable enough on its own to justify a dedicated, multi-month rollout rather than a single anniversary post.
