AUGUST Inc. announced on Friday that it is developing a “revival” version of Uta Macross: Smartphone De Culture, the Macross franchise’s first rhythm game, targeting iOS, Android and Steam for next spring. The company will launch a crowdfunding campaign on Japan’s Campfire platform on Thursday, and the franchise’s English social accounts have teased Japanese and English support.
The revived game rebuilds the title for Steam, iOS and Android while carrying over live performances and artwork from the original live-service version. Smartphone controls will be redesigned to add mouse-and-keyboard support and offline play. The standard edition will include 50 songs, more than 1,000 high-rarity “Plate” illustrations, over 20 outfits per singer and a “completely free-to-play” gacha system, with additional songs and content offered through DLC.
The crowdfunding goal is 30 million yen (about US$190,000) over 54 days, funding extra songs, platforms and content. The original Uta Macross launched on iOS and Android in August 2017 and ended service in June 2022; it featured Walkure from Macross Delta alongside characters such as Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee.
