Square Enix’s Thursday State of Play segment for Final Fantasy Resonance, an HD-2D offline reimagining of the shuttered mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, revealed Sephiroth as a major boss encounter and launched a new demo alongside confirmation of an October 22 release on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The story follows airship squadron commander Rain and childhood friend Lasswell as a royal mission to investigate a failing magical barrier ends in disaster: their Earth Crystal is shattered by a mysterious armored enemy, Veritas of the Dark, who later returns to attack their home city of Grandshelt. Determined to stop him and protect the world’s remaining Crystals, the pair set out with a mysterious ally named Fina.

The game will include a Collector’s Edition with an artbook, soundtrack and trading card, plus bonus items for pre-orders and the Digital Deluxe tier. It follows Square Enix’s earlier HD-2D console release Octopath Traveler 0, and arrives after both the English and Japanese versions of the original Final Fantasy Brave Exvius mobile game ended service in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
