Next month, publisher Ankama launches Yasuko, a new bande dessinee steeped in Japanese folklore, created by Julien Frey and Baptiste Pagani. The 80-page first volume releases August 28 at 16.90 euros, promising humor and adventure in a fantastical journey-focused story. Set in 1962 Tokyo, it follows Yasuko, a determined girl working in a restaurant instead of attending school who decides to travel alone to find her father in the United States, while Betobeto, a friendly but lazy yokai from the Red Forest, is unwillingly sent to help her — encountering vengeful yakuza, a merchant marine captain, and a banished ship-sinking yokai along the way.
