The family ofsound editor Robert James Kizer (known professionally as R.J. Kizer) revealed on Sunday that he died on August 12 after a battle with glioblastoma. He was 73.
The family does not plan to hold a funeral, but are planning for a memorial.
Kizer worked on the editing for the English dub of the 1969 Galaxy Express 999 film. The editor was known for his sound work on over 100 projects including Deadpool, Bad Boys for Life, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, War for the Planet of the Apes, and more.
Kizer also directed the films Death Ring, Hell Comes to Frogtown, and the American footage for Godzilla 1985.
He received 10 Golden Reel Award nominations from the Motion Picture SoundEditors over the course of his career and won the award for his work on War for the Planet of the Apes and the original The Lion King. He served two terms on the Motion Picture Academy Sound Branch Executive Committee and was inaugural Chair of the Sound Branch MuseumSubcommittee.
