Iceblade Sorcerer Light Novel Announces Final Volume for December Release

Tokyo‑based publisher Kodansha has updated its catalog with a new entry for the tenth volume of The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World (Japanese title: Hyōken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu – Sekai Saikyō no Majutsushi de Aru Shōnen wa, Majutsu Gakuin ga Nyūgaku Suru). The product page on Amazon lists a December 2 shipping date and includes a brief blurb that suggests the story is moving toward its conclusion.

The series originated as a web novel on the user‑generated site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in October 2019. Author Nana Mikoshiba wrapped up the online posting in February 2022 (final chapter link). The printed light novel adaptation began publication in July 2020, featuring illustrations by Riko Korie, and has been released consistently under Kodansha’s imprint.

To date, nine volumes have already reached Japanese shelves, with the ninth arriving on June 2. The upcoming tenth volume will be the final entry in the main light‑novel line, bringing the tale of Ray White—a hapless student at the elite Arnold Academy of Magic—to its climax. In the series, Ray is mistakenly linked to rumors about the mysterious Iceblade Sorcerer, a powerful mage rumored to be among the new class of students.

Parallel to the novels, the franchise has seen a successful manga adaptation. Illustrated by Norihito Sasaki, the manga debuted on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket website in June 2020 and concluded its run in January 2024 (announcement). Its 16th and final printed volume was shipped in April 2024.

Internationally, Kodansha USA Publishing has been handling the English releases. The thirteenth English volume landed in North America on June 2, keeping overseas fans up to date with the story’s progression.

Fans of the series also have a sequel manga to look forward to. Titled Hyōken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu II, the continuation began serialization on May 27. The art is provided by Nao Kagami, with composition by Ishiya Ōgane. It is published by Niconico under the “Suiyōbi no Sirius” label (label page) and the first volume was released on October 8.

The franchise’s multimedia presence extends to television. An anime adaptation of the light novels premiered its first season in January 2023, streamed globally by Crunchyroll, which also provided an English dub. The second season launched on October 8 and is currently airing, with Crunchyroll continuing its simulcast duties.

For those interested in the voice cast, the second season welcomed newcomers such as Shiki Aoki and Kazuyuki Okitsu (Manga For Today article). Their addition has helped sustain the series’ popularity as it approaches the narrative finale.

In 2021, Kodansha announced that it had licensed the manga and related spin‑offs for English distribution (news release), further expanding the franchise’s reach.

With the tenth volume slated for December, longtime readers can expect answers to the lingering mysteries surrounding the Iceblade Sorcerer and Ray White’s true abilities. Whether you follow the light novels, manga, or anime, the upcoming release promises a fitting close to a story that has been growing across multiple media for more than five years.
