Following The Strength of the Forgotten and Killer, the late Hiroshi Hirata's next work to be republished in France by Komics Initiative is Satsuma, in a large-format (15x21cm) edition with a faithful translation and a preface by Nota Bene, funded via crowdfunding with collector versions available; the 512-page first volume arrives September 11 at 25 euros. One of Hirata's most celebrated works, originally six volumes serialized in Japan from 1977-1982 (previously published in France by Delcourt in 2004-2005), it is set in mid-18th-century Satsuma, where impoverished rural goshi samurai, worn down by humiliation, rise up against the higher-ranking samurai who mistreated them, led by carpenter-samurai Sakon Shiba, who is sentenced to death for the rebellion.
