Four New Trailers Spotlight Key Cast for The Apothecary Diaries Film
The upcoming movie The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure has just dropped a quartet of character trailers, each focusing on a different group of protagonists. The clips, released this week, give fans a first look at new designs, voice performances, and hint at the intrigue that will drive the December 11, 2026, Japanese theatrical release.
Production is being handled by TOHO animation STUDIO, which is taking the helm solo this time, separate from OLM’s involvement on the TV series. The film’s story originates from series creator Hyuganatsu and is directed by veteran Norihiro Naganuma, who also guided the first two seasons.
Lead Pair Takes Center Stage
The inaugural trailer pairs the series’ central duo, Jinshi (voiced by Takeo Otsuka) and Maomao (voiced by Aoi Yuki). Their chemistry is front and center as Jinshi receives a mysterious imperial order and Maomao eagerly explores a bustling water‑bound city.
The trailer’s visual palette, crafted by character designer Yukiko Nakatani and color designer Misato Aida, highlights the vibrant market scenes that Maomao will navigate.

Bi Clan’s Four Warriors
The second teaser introduces four members of the Bi clan, a powerful southern faction that Jinshi and Maomao must visit. Voice talent includes Nobuo Tobita as Biro and Kumiko Watanabe as Shu, among others.
Additional cast revealed for the Bi clan includes Hirofumi Nojima as Bisen, and Ryota Takeuchi as Eisho, rounding out the clan’s formidable lineup.

Kajadan Pirates Appear
The third trailer shifts focus to the seafaring Kajadan pirates, led by the fearsome Suija (voiced by Kensho Ono). The clip showcases three pirate members, emphasizing their ruthless pursuit of a hidden treasure.
Further pirate casting includes Jiro Saito as Kaja, adding depth to the marauding crew.

Royal Court Figures: Ruoqing and Yinshan
The final trailer presents two court officials: consort Ruoqing, voiced by Ai Mikami, and lady‑in‑waiting Yinshan, voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro. Their roles hint at political intrigue surrounding the secret treasure.
Fans can find the full character roster on the official movie character page, which lists all newly announced voices.
Music for the film is being composed by a trio that includes Satoru Kosaki, Kevin Penkin, and Alisa Okehazama, who previously scored the TV series. Background art direction is led by Masakazu Miyake, known for his work on Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, while Atsushi Takeyama handles compositing.
Crunchyroll, alongside Sony Pictures Entertainment, will bring the movie to North American audiences, confirming an international release plan.
For more details on the North American acquisition, see Crunchyroll’s announcement. The broader context of the series’ ongoing expansion—including the third TV season announced in October 2025 and its split‑cour schedule—can be traced through the original season‑3 reveal and the latest season‑3 trailer.
Earlier this week, Anime News Network reported on the first trailer, while subsequent ANN articles detailed the Bi clan, pirate, and court‑official reveals (Bi clan, pirates, court cast).
Our own coverage of the cast additions can be found in the articles Miyuki Sawashiro and Ai Mikami Join The Apothecary Diaries Film Cast and Kajadan Pirates Cast Unveiled, which dive deeper into the performers behind the new characters.
With each trailer, the film’s mystery deepens: an emperor‑ordered quest to fulfill a deceased concubine’s final wish, a pristine corpse, and a city of water where pirates and clans clash over a hidden treasure. As the trailers suggest, the narrative will weave together political intrigue, adventure, and the series’ signature herbal knowledge.
