Akata's Heritages collection gets a major addition: Fire!, one of the most iconic works by Hideko Mizuno, a pioneering figure in shojo manga's diversification, previously unpublished in France, with its first volume due in October. Born in 1939 in Yamaguchi prefecture, Mizuno discovered manga through Osamu Tezuka's New Treasure Island and began publishing professionally as a teenager, later becoming the sole female resident of the famed Tokiwaso residence in Tokyo. She broke new ground in shojo manga repeatedly: tackling heterosexual romance (long considered taboo in the genre) in Hoshi no Tategoto, pioneering historical drama with Shiroi Troika, and, with Fire!, centering a male protagonist — a series that profoundly shaped a generation.
