A teaser trailer for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Kana Yoshimura’s dark‑comedy manga Murciélago dropped on Wednesday, introducing the series’ central duo, the voice cast, and the production staff. The short video, posted by the official project account, sets a gritty tone for the story of a state‑sanctioned executioner and her lethal driver.

The series follows Kuroko Koumori, a former death‑row inmate who is recruited through an unusual legal loophole to become a government‑approved executioner. By her side is Hinako Tozakura, a master driver whose skills rival Kuroko’s lethal precision. Together they take on a cascade of heinous crimes, delivering a “wildly unconventional, addictively insane, and dangerously intoxicating buddy‑action” narrative, according to the platform HIDIVE.

Voice Cast Revealed
The teaser confirms three lead voice actors:
- Sumire Uesaka as Kuroko Koumori
- Minori Suzuki as Hinako Tozakura
- Hitomi Ueda in a supporting role

These performers are known for their work on series ranging from Love Live! to Guilty Crown, and their casting suggests a blend of sharp delivery and charismatic energy that fits the series’ morally ambiguous premise.
Creative Team
The adaptation is being produced by Satelight in collaboration with Staple Entertainment. Matsuo Asami, known for directing episodes of The Villainess Is Adored by the Prince of the Neighbor Kingdom and SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table, will helm the series. Veteran Takashi Naoya, who handled series composition for Am I Actually the Strongest?, serves as chief director and also oversees the overall script.
Character designs are being crafted by Kiyoshi Tateishi, while the musical score will be provided by composers Masanori Akita and Yūichi Tsuchiya. Their combined experience promises a soundtrack that can swing between tense chase scenes and darkly comedic moments.

Manga Roots and Global Reach
The original manga launched in Young Gangan in 2013, where it quickly amassed a cult following for its subversive take on justice and law enforcement. Square Enix, the publisher, released the 29th tankōbon volume on July 24, and the series now boasts over 2.3 million copies in circulation worldwide. English‑language rights are held by Yen Press, which issued volume 27 in September 2022.
Yoshimura also expanded the universe with a spin‑off titled Murciélago Byproduct Araña, serialized on the Manga UP! app from 2018 to 2020, focusing on the character Reiko Kuchiba.
Broadcast Plans and Streaming Home
According to the official announcement, the anime is slated to premiere in January 2027. Further details on the exact broadcast slot will be released as the launch approaches. Internationally, the series will stream exclusively on HIDIVE, which has already positioned the title as a flagship addition to its 2027 lineup.
Fans can expect subtitles at launch, with a dubbed version likely to follow later in the year, following HIDIVE’s usual practice for new series.
