Crunchyroll has unveiled the complete English voice cast and behind‑the‑scenes team for the upcoming dub of The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2. The first dubbed episode will drop this Wednesday, giving fans outside Japan a chance to hear the story in English as it airs in Japan.
The light‑novel series, created by Nigojū and illustrated by Umibōzu, first entered the anime world in July 2021 with a one‑hour special followed by a 12‑episode run. The original broadcast was handled by Funimation, which also produced an English dub at the time. After a two‑year gap, the second cour launched in Japan on October 7, and Crunchyroll now streams it weekly in its original Japanese audio with subtitles.
In a recent announcement, Crunchyroll detailed the English voice talent for Episode 1. Veteran seiyuu Austin Tindle will portray Kimizuka, while Xanthe Huynh takes on both Siesta and Noches. Arryn Zech is cast as Natsunagi, and Megan Shipman voices Char. The cast also includes Jamie Marchi as Hel, Jad Saxton as Saikawa, and a duo of female students voiced by Meg McClain and Corey Pettit.
The production side of the dub is being handled in‑house by Crunchyroll. The studio team lists Justin Cook, Michael Harcourt, and Nathanael Harrison as studio producers, with Susie Nixon serving as the overall producer. Jarrod Greene oversees adaptation supervision, while adaptation work is credited to Heather Walker and Stevie Rae Krieger. The voice direction will be led by Jason Lord, assisted by Ryan Negrón. Technical responsibilities such as engineering, mixing, and talent coordination are spread across Gino Palencia, Brandon Peters, August Cline, Rickey Watkins, Tara A. Williams, and Brittni Hurley.
Season 2 continues under the direction of ENGI veteran Manabu Kurihara, with series scripts by Deko Akao and character designs by Yōsuke Itō, both returning from the first cour. Music composition is handled by 40mP, who also wrote and arranged the opening and ending themes. The opening song, “Kono Shinzō ni Hanabata wo,” is performed by Kōme, and the ending “Hakuchumu” is sung by Kagura Nana.
The English dub debut comes as Crunchyroll expands its music and content hub, adding a slew of new anime music videos on the same day. Among the fresh additions are Vaundy’s “fly away” (opening for Daemons of the Shadow Realm), Kei Sugawara’s “peacock” (second ending for the same series), and Omoinotake’s “FLASHBULB” and “Hanataba,” which serve as the opening and ending for Hana‑Kimi Season 2. Other newly listed videos include “Conifer” by Regal Lily (ending for Draw This, Then Die!) and several tracks from the Haikyu!! franchise provided by BURNOUT SYNDROMES.
The second season was first announced in July 2022, with an initial broadcast window set for July. Production delays pushed the premiere to October, aligning the Japanese airing with Crunchyroll’s weekly simulcast schedule. Fans can now watch the subtitled version as it airs, and the English dub will follow a week later, starting with the first episode’s release on Wednesday.
For those looking for more background, the original light‑novel series is cataloged on Anime News Network’s manga encyclopedia, while the anime adaptation is listed under the series entry. The term “dub” itself is defined in the Anime News Network lexicon for readers unfamiliar with localization terminology.
With the cast and crew now public, anticipation builds for how the English performances will reinterpret the mystery‑laden narrative that follows detective Kanazuki and his enigmatic partner Siesta. The upcoming dub promises to bring fresh nuance to the story’s blend of thriller, sci‑fi, and supernatural elements, delivering a new entry point for English‑speaking audiences.
