Nearly a decade after his death in February 2017, celebrated mangaka Jiro Taniguchi returns to Casterman's Sakka imprint with Invitations, a 112-page collection never before published in France, arriving September 9 at 20 euros (translated by Patrick Honnore). Originally published posthumously in Japan by Shogakukan in 2017, this final, unfinished work by the artist gathers three previously untranslated stories exploring memory, contemplation, and wandering through a dreamlike Japan — including two featuring Irish-Japanese travel writer Lafcadio Hearn wandering 1897 Tokyo before being drawn into traditional Japanese fantastical tales, and a third following a man led toward an unknown destination by a young woman.
